Most parameter questions from the shop floor come down to four problems: a change that does not take effect, a vertical weld that does not weave, a weld that lands off the seam, and a bead that is too thin. This welding robot parameter tuning guide gives operators of JTCLASER programming-free welding workstations one checklist for each, in the order that solves them fastest.
How do you tune welding robot parameters so changes take effect?
Edit the parameter in the procedure package the seam actually uses, save, upload and confirm every dialog with the teach pendant in Auto and connected, then switch welding on and run from the first line. Fix the wire position with the offsets first, then tune current, voltage and weaving. Change one item at a time.
1Why don’t parameter changes take effect?
A change made in the PC software reaches the robot only after the full apply sequence. Skipping any step leaves the robot running the old program.
- Photograph the value before and after
Without a record you cannot roll back after several changes.
- Save
Click Save after every edit.
- Upload and confirm every dialog
Confirm the upload dialogs in order.
- Teach pendant in Auto and connected
The program only reaches the robot when the pendant is in Auto and connected to the software during upload.
- Switch welding on and run from line one
Then test-weld and photograph the result.
If all five steps were done and nothing changed, check: was the edited procedure package the one this seam uses? Do the node and the teach pendant use the same weld file number? Is the path-preview (dry-run) switch still on? Did the software freeze after a remote session dropped (restart it)?
2Why is the robot not weaving on vertical welds?
A vertical weld that runs as a straight line and does not fill the joint means weaving is not active. Four conditions must all be met:
| Check | Where |
|---|---|
| Weaving switched on | PC software: the procedure package the seam references (weave switch and weave file number) |
| Weld file numbers match | The number in the node’s package must equal the weld file the teach pendant calls |
| Preview switch off | With the path-preview (dry-run) switch on, the robot follows the path but does not weave or weld |
| Welding switched on | Teach pendant weld on/off |
Changing only the pendant side is not enough: the PC side must be correct too, then save and upload. If all four are right and there is still no weave, send the generated program and path preview to technical support.
3How do you fix weld offset and a thin bead with welding robot parameter tuning?
These are two different problems. Fix them in this order:
- Position first: aim the wire with the offsets
If the wire lands off the seam, adjust the L1/L2 offsets in the procedure package this seam uses until the wire points at the joint. Feed the wire manually and photograph the tip at the seam.
- Then heat input: current, voltage, weaving
If the position is right but the bead does not fill, raise welding current and voltage and adjust weave speed and width in the teach pendant weld file. Switching to another weld file number is a separate lever; confirm which number is in use first.
- One change at a time
Save, upload, test from line one and photograph each weld, so you know which change made the difference.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to rescan after changing welding parameters?
For weld parameter changes, save and upload are enough. Ask technical support whether a scan, camera or point-picking change requires a rescan.
Where is the weaving switch on a welding robot?
In the PC software, inside the weld procedure package that the seam references, together with the weave file number.
What should I adjust first for a thin weld bead?
First confirm the wire lands on the joint, then raise current and voltage and adjust weave speed and width in the teach pendant weld file.
Need help with a setting?
Send photos of the parameter page, the teach pendant weld file and the weld result. Our engineers will reply with the next step.
